Quick contact
Email support@homescanplan.com — we try to reply within two business days.
When you write in, it helps to include:
- Your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings → General → About).
- What you were doing in the app when the problem happened.
- A screenshot if possible.
Device requirements
HomeScanPlan needs:
- An iPhone Pro model (iPhone 12 Pro or newer) — RoomPlan, Apple's room-scanning framework, requires a LiDAR Scanner. Non-Pro iPhones do not have LiDAR and cannot capture scans.
- iOS 18.6 or later.
- Permission to use the camera (granted on first scan; you can review this in Settings → HomeScanPlan).
If your iPhone doesn't have LiDAR, the app will tell you instead of attempting to scan.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate are the measurements?
We characterize accuracy against a tape measure room-by-room. Typical wall lengths are within about 1 inch or 1%, whichever is larger. Each scanned object in the Objects list shows its size in feet and inches so you can verify against a tape measure. For ordering materials, treat estimates as a planning aid, not a replacement for measuring the spots that matter most.
What does the app actually calculate?
Materials only. Paint quantity and cost, flooring and trim quantity and cost, plus a manual line-item path for construction / electrical / plumbing items where the scan can't infer the count (outlets, studs, pipe runs). Labor is deliberately out of scope.
Net wall area subtracts door and window openings. Waste factor (default 10%) is editable per estimate and snapshotted onto saved line items, so editing a material's cost later does not change historical figures.
My scan shows the ceiling as flat, but the room has a sloped/vaulted ceiling. Is that a bug?
No — Apple's RoomPlan models the ceiling as a single horizontal plane, so vaulted, shed, gable, and cathedral ceilings all come back as a flat rectangle. Paint and drywall estimates for such rooms will read low. A future version may add a per-room manual ceiling-type override.
Can I export my scan?
Yes. From a scan's detail page, Prepare files for sharing generates a USDZ (3D model) and a JSON (the RoomPlan capture) you can send via the share sheet. Bills of materials export as CSV or PDF.
Does the app store my scans in the cloud?
Today: no — scans live only on your iPhone. A future update (1.1) will offer optional cloud sync through HomeScanPlan's own service, so your projects appear on your other devices and can be shared with contractors regardless of which device they use. Cloud sync will be opt-in — you'll be asked, not auto-enrolled. When that feature ships, the privacy policy will be updated to reflect what we collect.
Can I undo a delete?
Deleting a project, room, or scan removes its content along with its child records and exported files. The app shows a confirmation listing what will be removed before it happens; once confirmed, it cannot be undone in-app.
Why are some buttons disabled or hidden?
If a scan is missing its source 3D model or JSON (older versions, or a partial save), the share buttons for that file type will not appear.
How are my privacy and data handled?
See the Privacy Policy. Short version: no account, no analytics, nothing leaves the device unless you tap the share sheet yourself.
Reporting a bug or asking for a feature
Email support@homescanplan.com. For bug reports, the most useful thing you can send is a short screen recording (Settings → Control Center → add Screen Recording) showing what happened.
